Exchange Week Switzerland 2023

This year, we invited people from Germany, Croatia, Hungary, Belgium, Spain, Italy and the UK to our Exweek on the topic: Sip back and relax! We planned a program showing everyone the variety of drinks that are made in Switzerland. Here is the recap of this amazing week:

Monday morning, we started the ex-week with an excursion to Lucerne where we walked around the old town and saw different sites like the Chapel Bridge, the Musegg Wall, the KKL (Kuktur- und Kongresszentrum Luzern), we saw the castle of the Gütsch Hotel up close and we ended the morning by walking along the Vierwaldstättersee to catch the bus. For lunch, we ate a good Picknick under a cloudy sky and we had a little rain, but nothing unbearable. In the afternoon we went to an organic vineyard (Bioweingut Sitenrain) where they showed us their crops and explained the different wines they produce. Of course, we tasted some wine and were able to ask questions about the whole process. We then returned to Lucerne and toured the city before heading back to Baar where we had dinner and fun playing games and getting to know each other.

Tuesday began early with a hike up the Zugerberg. We continued with a picnic in the forest before heading down the mountain to visit Strickhof Früebüel, an ETH research center dedicated to agriculture. A sporty day that ended with a nice plate of Spätzli!

On Wednesday morning, we visited the Etter distillery in Zug. We got a tour through the whole Production and could ask all the question we had about the process. Then, we could try many different distills and it was delicious! For lunch, we had a nice sunny picnic at the lake in Zug. Later, we went back to Baar to rest a bit. Then, we had a very interesting discussion about sustainable farming and started preparing for the Trade Fair. The Trade Fair was simply delicious, and we could try so many cool foods from different countries. It was a real party!

On Thursday, we had a nice brunch in the morning with Shakshuka, scrambled tofu and Birchermüesli. Then, we went to Emmi in Emmen where we got to see their yoghurt production and their huuge new cheese production building. During the evening, we went to our revered Thursday-beer (“DoBier”) in the ETH LFW building where we drank beers on the terrace.

Friday, we went to Zürich. First, we took the Polybahn to get to the Polyterasse, where we could take some nice pictures. Then we went through the main building of the ETHZ, and we went to visit the sustainable food processing lab of the food sciences department where they showed us their research on alternative proteins and meat substitutes. After the visit of the university, we walked to the Lindenhof crossing the old town. There, we ate lunch and took a nap! In the afternoon we visited the Oerlikon brewery, where we could taste some beers. Afterwards, we went back to Baar, ate some Lasagna, and prepared the development found night! As it was the last night, we had a great party!

This Exweek was truly a great experience, and we are so happy with the result of all the work we put in organizing it. It showed once again what an amazing community IAAS is!
